MikroTik Canada

What it is

A point-to-point (PTP) wireless link is a direct connection between two locations. It carries data, voice and video where cable is impractical, too costly or too slow to install.

  • Point-to-point link

A direct bridge between two points, carrying data, voice or video without physical cable.

  • Wireless backhaul

Carry traffic from end users or an edge network back toward a node connected to the Internet backbone.

  • Wireless repeater

Extend the reach of a wireless signal by receiving it and passing it on, with an intermediary point in the link.

Suitable products

Names and references are as MikroTik and the MikroTik Canada store list them. Prices on product pages are MikroTik's USD list prices; current availability is in the store. Product photos are added once their source and rights are confirmed.

How to read speed and distance
Link rate (PHY)
The fastest rate the radio can signal under ideal conditions. It is not what your traffic will get.
Measured throughput
What data actually moves across the link. MikroTik does not publish a measured wireless throughput for these devices, so none is shown.
Port speed
The speed of the Ethernet port (1 Gigabit here). It limits what you can plug in, not what the radio link can carry.

Distance. Distances are the figures MikroTik states (typical or from its own tests). They are not guarantees: real range depends on line of sight, obstructions, weather, mounting and interference. Use the site survey and link-budget steps to check your link.

Help choosing

Who it helps
  • ISPs and WISPsConnect customers and sites in hard-to-reach areas where laying cable is not practical.
  • Surveillance integrators (page coming soon)A stable connection between cameras and the recording system, without running cable over long distances or rough terrain.
  • Agriculture (page coming soon)Connect sensors and devices spread over large distances for real-time monitoring.
  • Government (page coming soon)Secure, efficient data links between departments and facilities.
When it is a good fit
  • Cable length is a limit
  • Cabling is costly
  • Permits or construction limit what you can build
  • Time and budget are tight
  • Water, mountains or other terrain are in the way
  • The location is a difficult environment, such as a mine
  • You need to connect across a long distance
